# Room Tools · Common Problems
Condensed English edition.
# Quick reference
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Skim coat / ceiling spray / write-to-room won't generate | Rooms don't cover those elements | Room parameter tuning |
| Room numbering doesn't work / wrong order | The through-line isn't a single line | Through-line |
| Room gone from the plan but still in the schedule | "Not placed" rooms from deleting tags | Use Room Cleanup |
| Schedule room counts are inflated | Abandoned / tiny / floating rooms | Room Cleanup |
| Space finish schedule shows not the materials | It reports host element names | Room finishes |
| Height analysis won't compute | Missing face elements / colour scheme | Clear height prerequisites |
| Just need unique names, order irrelevant | — | Use "Name reset" instead of the numbering curve |
# Room parameter tuning is step one
Everything downstream depends on this
Everything a room should contain (beams, slabs, services, …) must be covered by the room's spatial geometry.
The plugin's skim coat, exposed ceiling spray and write-to-room commands extract information from the room geometry — anything not covered won't generate and won't be written.
Approach: on a new project, first raise the room's upper limit so it covers all elements, then continue.
How to verify coverage
Use "Room solid" to make the room's spatial geometry visible — uncovered areas become obvious. (It's also used before exporting IFC, to store room geometry.)
# The numbering line must be a single line
WARNING
Draw one line through all target rooms. It must be a single line (an arc or spline is fine) — not a chain of straight segments.
Usage: draw the through-line → run the command → pick the start room's position → click the through-line.
- Rooms the line passes but with different names are filtered out automatically (corridors, offices, etc.)
- Numbering starts at 1; the start number is adjustable (e.g. start at 10)
"Name reset" vs. "numbering curve":
| Command | Use when |
|---|---|
| Name reset | You only need no duplicates (suffixes); order isn't guaranteed — fastest |
| Numbering curve | You need strict ordering so schedules and drawings are correct |
# What Room Cleanup removes
Three classes of "unreasonable" room, removed in one go:
- Rooms smaller than the area threshold (default 1 m² — recommended; keep very small storage rooms)
- Rooms not placed in the project — very common after deleting room tags manually: gone from the plan, still in the schedule
- Rooms placed in empty space
Why this matters
Rooms are phase-dependent (sizes differ by phase). One sample project cleared 54 unreasonable rooms in a single pass — leave them and your schedule data is fiction.
The companion "quick delete" removes rooms entirely (including their schedule records).
# Space finish schedule reports host element names
"Room finishes" reports the names of the elements enclosing the room (what type the ceiling, walls and floor use), to produce a space finish schedule.
So you get type names like "white inorganic coating" or "shaped substrate board" — not the materials themselves.
- When a room has several wall finishes, they're listed on separate lines
- ⚠️ Revit schedules have poor row spacing → use the companion "export space finish schedule" and read it in Excel
- Benefit: no matter how many materials make up a floor or wall, they can all be reported
# Clear height analysis prerequisites
Principle: within a uniform elevation range per level, take an upper and lower elevation (e.g. 2.6 m – 3.0 m) and compute only the lowest point of all geometry in that range.
Two things needed:
- All three faces built (ceiling, floor and walls generated)
- A colour scheme named "clear height analysis" (created by room clear height)
Output includes a colour-filled legend with annotations; different height bands get different colours.
Not fully polished
The developer states this command isn't fully polished yet — good enough for quick numbers.
# Write to room
Writes "which room this belongs to" onto elements, so schedules know which room each wall or furniture piece belongs to.
- Prerequisite: rooms must already cover these elements via parameter tuning, or nothing is written
- Usage: click "Write room" → pick a room → it reports "n elements assigned"; the value then appears in element properties
- Much of the later platform-upload work depends on this information
